The summer holidays are fast approaching – but don’t panic as Willows Farm Village near St Albans is holding their brilliant Summer Spectacular event with plenty to keep children busy from the 18th July to 6th September.

Willows’ farmer Andrew Wolfe has planted an A-maize-ing Maze – grown completely from maize. Finding your way around the maze is an exciting adventure the whole family will enjoy, but make sure you don’t get too lost and are out in time to take part in some of the other fun activities that are taking place this summer at Willows.

There will be traditional sports day races, including egg and spoon and sack races, with certificates for all children who take part.

Also returning to Willows this year is the fun Summer Panto which takes place in Woolly’s Showtime Theatre with a new show and the popular Sing-a-long-a Woolly sessions which see Farm Village mascot Woolly Willow the Sheep leading children in well-known nursery rhymes.

Outdoors, there are all the farmyard animals to see, and children can let off steam on Woolly’s Workout agility play trail before trying their hand on the new Frisbee Golf course. If the weather takes a turn for the worse, there is still plenty of fun to be had with Willows’ indoor play barn, Woolly Jumpers, featuring active play, ball pools and three exciting slides.

Andrew Wolfe, farmer at Willows, says: “The nice spring weather we have had has allowed the maize maze to grow really well this year – making it harder than ever and even more fun to find your way around!

“Tristan, our Runaway Tractor, helped me with the ploughing and planting of the maize this year but he is rather forgetful and managed to misplace lots of his things in the field. Visitors can help search for Tristan’s lost belongings and fill in a form as they find their way through the maze. We will draw a winner from the completed forms to wind a £100 Farm Shop voucher.

“Farms are wonderful in the warm summer months. There is plenty of space to run around, and the animals are all very relaxed and enjoy meeting the children every day. Now is also a great time to come back to the farm and visit the baby animals from the spring – children will be amazed at how much they have grown!”

The Summer Panto shows are scheduled to take place in Woolly’s Showtime Theatre at 11am and 4:15pm daily. Sing-a-long-a Woolly takes place in the sheep show stand at 12:45pm and 2:45pm daily with summer sports day races at 3pm each day.

Hertfordshire’s first Frisbee Golf course opens in London Colney

The popular game of Frisbee Golf has arrived in Hertfordshire following the opening of the county’s first course at Willows Farm Village in London Colney this week (Monday 27 April).

Frisbee Golf British Tour Champion, Derek Robins, opened the course at the farm village on Coursers Road this week, and then gave visitors to the attraction some lessons in the game.

Derek was the first European member of the exclusive invitation-only "Disc Golf Hall of Fame" – in recognition of his outstanding level of achievement in the sport. He was also the 2003 European Champion in the age 40+ division, and he competed in the world games in Japan in 2001 where he represented Great Britain.

Originating in the states in the 1960’s, Frisbee Golf is a disc game in which individual players throw a flying disc into a basket or at a target. It is now played increasingly across the UK, with clubs emerging and individuals such as Derek performing extremely well in international competitions.

With an accolade of awards to his name, Derek was well placed to comment on Hertfordshire’s first Frisbee Golf course: “This is a great course for introducing families to Frisbee Golf. It is brilliant to see the sport growing and courses such as the new one at Willows really help to get youngsters interested in the game.

“I hope to eventually see some of Hertfordshire’s youngsters in future Disc Golf competitions around the world!’

Andrew Wolfe, farmer at Willows, says: “At Willows we are always on the lookout for new ways to have fun, and Frisbee Golf is just perfect for adults and children to enjoy together. The course has been designed especially for families to play, with bright colourful holes based on activities at Willows. It gone down a storm during the first week of opening, and we look forward to watching our regular visitors improve their game.”

In addition to the new Frisbee Golf course, visitors to Willows will be able to enjoy farmyard animals, rides on Tristan the Runaway Tractor, Children’s Shows and indoor and outdoor adventure play.

Mystery shopping experts at Willows

May 2009

After welcoming just under 500,000 visitors in 2008, Willows Farm Village has grown to become the largest Farm Park in the country. To help maintain our high standards of customer service we have recently started working with the mystery shopping experts at Shopper Anonymous providing independent feedback for all of our activities.

Andrew Wolfe,  Chief executive of Willows, said 'Delivering exceptional customer service is  the benchmark we have set ourselves.  We believe that the Mystery Shopping  provided by Shopper Anonymous will help  improve our service by giving us a real insight into the actual experience we provide - 'seen through the eyes of a customer.'

As a key priority for the business in 2009, Willows are significantly investing in staff training to provide the best possible experience for all our customers – children and adults alike.
